Men of Merit - An Evening of Recognition

The recognition ceremony began with a welcoming address from EPN Chairman Kuwayne Cain, who stressed: "It is essential that we do not lose focus, of the fact that this is 'not' an awards ceremony. We do not present these sixteen men as the highest achieving black men in the country. They are achievers in different sectors that the general public have nominated, as being worthy of recognition. So let us collectively
rejoice, in the fact that these men are a reflection of, the many thousands of black men, who refuse to aspire towards the negative stereotype, that society would like to place on them.

There now follows quotes from the acceptance speeches of those present on the night. The first recognition certificate was presented to Detective Inspector David Michael: " It's a great pleasure and an honour to be recognised in this way and to stand here amongst those who have helped to inspire me along the way. I feel very grateful and privileged to be recognised in this company tonight."
